Stones Electrical Contractors Ltd is a privately owned and operated company that works throughout the Greater Wellington Region, Kapiti and Horowhenua. We are a progressive forward thinking company, with a great team of enthusiastic and dedicated individuals who are committed to the delivery of quality workmanship in a professional and reliable manner to all our customers.

We began over 30 years ago as a one-man band working on the Kapiti Coast and have grown since that inception to a team of over 40. Our team includes Project Mangers, Site Supervisors, Administrators, Electricians and Apprentices.

We are active members of The Electrical Contractors Association of NZ which aligns us with the Master Electrician brand. This offers our clients the security of the Master Electrician Workmanship Guarantee.

We are focussed on the future of the Electrical Industry with the continued commitment of the employment and training of Apprentices.

Our staff are Site Safe certified and are continually focussed on their own safety and the safety of their fellow work colleagues and the public.

Our Team


Merv Nicholl

Managing Director

Merv has a very broad range of experience in the commercial, domestic and industrial sectors within the electrical industry. He takes a hands-on approach in the management of the company, overseas the financial performance of the different sectors of the business, and the business development. Merv has actively been involved on the Wellington branch committee of the Electrical Contractors Association of NZ (ECANZ) and has served as the Vice President and the President.

Shaun Dent

Project Manager

Shaun joined Stones as an Apprentice in 2003 and has progressed through the company to the position of Project Manager. He takes a leading role in all aspects of tendering, design and management of our contracted works. He is focussed on implementing modern approaches to our systems and procedures. Shaun is one of our Workplace Assessors and outside of work enjoys squash, working out at the gym and music.

Peter Rigarlsford

Project Manager

Since joining Stones in 2013 as a Project Manager, Peters’ role has been to oversee the day to day management of various commercial contracts and residential developments. Over his years in the electrical industry, Peter has gained a wide variety of skills which includes UPS power supplies and generators; he is also a Registered Electrical Inspector. In his spare time, Peter enjoys a regular game of golf and the occasional visit to a winery.

Richard Gibbens

Project Manager

Richard joined the team at Stones in 2014. In his role of Project Manager he is responsible for the operational and financial delivery of a number of commercial projects. With his experience in the electrical industry, Richard brings a sound set of technical skills covering electrical mechanical and telecommunications sectors and is a Registered Electrical Inspector. In his time away from work, Richard enjoys the quiet time fishing at Lake Taupo.

Neville Wagstaff

Contract Manager

Neville has been with Stones since 2001, starting as a Senior Electrician and now fills the role of our Contracts Manager. He is responsible for the day to day running of our commercial and domestic servicing work, and also manages some of our housing and smaller commercial contracts. As one of our Workplace Assessors, Neville assists in the management of our team of Apprentices; he is also a Registered Electrical Inspector. In his own time, Neville has taken an active role on the Board of Trustees of local primary, intermediate and secondary schools in Levin.

Mike Sands

Project Manager

After joining Stones in 2005 as an Apprentice, Mike moved south to Wanaka for a number of years where he furthered his electrical skills, and was responsible for the day to day management of a service department and small commercial contracts. After returning to Stones in 2012, Mike has moved into the role of a Project Manager where he is responsible for all new housing works including design work and pricing. He is also one of our Workplace Assessors. Outside work, Mike enjoys time with his family and takes a keen interest in a variety of sports.

Amanda Bloxham

Office Manager

Amanda joined Stones in 2014 as our Office Manager. She has a background in office administration and accounting and has gained experience while working in government agencies and private enterprises both in NZ and overseas. Amanda is responsible for all the administration duties including finances, payroll, and day to day administration as well as taking care of the front office role at reception. Amanda has an interest in baking and cake decorating, and walks along the beach with her dog.
